GlySign
This video informs you about our GlySign Consortium, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action programme. Six Early Stage Researchers introduce you to the scientific world of glycomic clinical markers and assay development for precision medicine. The advantages of an industrial doctorate will be highlighted as this is an excellent example of the collaboration between academic and industrial partners and how it can benefit for both researchers and science!
On February 3-7 the GlySign final meeting was held in Leiden including our closing symposium entitled: “Glycomic markers for precision medicine”, a final annual meeting, and the workshops Industrial academic mobility workshop and career development. It was a successful week in which a broad scientific community was reached, future plans where shared and closure of the program was discussed.
It was a very interesting day of presentations and meetings as the ESRs and the team came together to discuss recent work and plan for the months ahead. Following this, a two day Industrial-Academic mobility workshop was held, organised by the ESRs themselves with the support of the hosts at Genos.
The ESRs had the opportunity to share their experiences with a group of very enthusiastic students from the University of Zagreb. It was a fantastic experience shared by all, where the ESRs were able to show how they have benefitted from being part of an industrial and international training network.
This entire week including all meetings and workshops, emphasis was put on career development and the GlySign stu dents also met experienced scientists and discussed their career opportunities. Undoubtedly it was a busy, but very rewarding week.
Our mid-term review meeting will take place at LUMC (Leiden, NL and was combined with workshops on Biologicals/Biotechnology, Quality Management Exercises, and Scientific Writing. The ESRs presented their data to an external reviewer and our EU project officer, who were both pleased by the progress of our project.
All GlySigners appreciated the visit of Emanuela Lonardi (photo above) who was our project manager for two years since project launch in October 2016, but now handed over her task to Suzanne van der Plas-Duivesteijn.
Moreover, the senior researchers had the opportunity to interact and align on different matters including the industrial-academic co-supervision of the ESRs. Interactive workshops with industrial representatives, including a site visit at Sanquin manufacturing facilities and a discussion with a scientist from Janssen Biotech, gave the ESRs the chance to gain insights into career opportunities in biopharma and biotech industry.
