GlySign, as a European Industrial Doctorate (EID), is based on 6 PhD positions in the fields of glycoproteomics, (analytical) glycobiology and clinical mass spectrometry

The six early Stage Researchers (ESRs) are being trained in advanced glycomics technologies arising from the EU-FP7 HighGlycan programme, as well as other orthogonal glycoanalytical methods developed by consortium members. Each ESR is employed by one of the three beneficiaries, based in the Netherlands, in Croatia and in England, respectively. The candidates are supported by H2020-MSCA-ITN funding for a maximum of 36 months. Salary includes a living allowance, adjusted for location, and a mobility allowance. An additional family allowance may apply depending on circumstances.

RECRUITMENT PROCEDURE

Besides holding a Master’s degree in life sciences or a related field / degree, a good level of English (spoken and written) was one of the main criteria for selection. The candidates should be good communicators with the ability to develop work relationships and have strong analytical skills particularly with an attention to detail. They should be an independent thinker with a proven ability to project manage their work and meet deadlines. They should be able to work efficiently as part of a team and to build upon our collaborations. For specific requirements, please refer to the individual job descriptions.

Eligibility Criteria

Given that the positions are funded by the European Commission on a H2020-MSCA-ITN, eligibility restrictions apply:

  1. EXPERIENCE: Early-Stage Researchers (ESRs) shall, at the time of recruitment by the host organisation, be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and have not been awarded a doctoral degree. For the purpose of determining eligibility, full-time equivalent research experience is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the researcher is recruited or seconded, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is or was ever envisaged. Full-time equivalent research experience may include periods of research such as work on certain MSc or MPhil degrees, time spent as a research assistant or laboratory technician in a research environment or time spent in an industrial research and development environment. This list is not exhaustive and should act as a general indication only. The four year period (or 48 months) is an aggregated period since the award of the degree that would allow you to embark on doctoral studies and is not a simple “four year” cut off.
  2. MOBILITY RULE: at the time of recruitment by the host organisation, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account.
